MacHardie/MacHardy/McHardy/McHardie
From the old gaelic 'MacChardiad'h, son of the sloe.

There are many interpretations of our Surname and its derivants , I prefer the one above :)

Originating mostly from the Highland areas of Aberdeenshire, the MacHardie families seem to have been from two sects. Strathdon MacHardies followed Mackintosh as their Chief,and the Braemar MacHardies who followed Farquharson as Chief.

History
My Family seem to be from the Braemar branch. The furthest back I have managed to get is to James MacHardie, born 1750, Crathie, but no details of his parents. It's a guessing game. He married Janet Cattenach in Crathie, c.1770, and I have managed to trace the Family from there . With no evidence of anything different, I am claiming James McHardy of Ballach as his Father

Australian McHardies
I have managed to make contact with a descendants of my Grandfathers brother, James, who went to Australia. I am including their families on my pages, and we have done a lot of the research together, and I am in contact with Jan in Australia and her sister Carol in New Zealand, the great grand-daughters of James.
