Example #4 Instructions

(I am including all instructions for each example, but if you're doing these in order, you

can skip down to the step numbers shown in pink for the new additions to each example)

First you need to start a new Scrippy work area, or what

I call the Master Scrippy.   Click on File > New.

STEP 1 - The next thing I usually do is add a background to my Master Scrippy, in this case I'm using this light pinkish texture.  Just click on Insert > Background and select your graphic. For now I'm using the default settings.

STEP 2 - Now I want to add the Positioned Container to my Master Scrippy and I want this container to be 400 pixels wide by 400 pixels high.  I also want the container to be on the left side of the Master Scrippy so I can place text on the right side.  In addition, I want the flower container to be 30 pixels from the left edge and 50 pixels from the top.

Click on Insert > Container > Positioned Container

You will be given the container settings box as shown below.  Here are the settings I used when I created this container.  You will notice that if you click the preview button at this point you won't see the container because it's basically an empty,  miniature Scrippy waiting for you to put something inside it.

IMPORTANT - Click on the Positioned Container button that you just created over on the left hand control panel before adding anything to the container.  You must do this so that all the objects you add next will be placed inside that container and the buttons for those objects will be indented as shown in the graphic at the bottom of this page.  If you forget to do this and add an object that should be inside the container, but it's somewhere else, just drag that button under the container to place it there.

STEP 3 - Next I added a double frame around my container.  Click on Insert > Frame  and choose the color, type and width you want.  Click the preview button now and you will see your blank container.  Be sure to click back on the Positioned Container Button on the control panel to continue inserting objects into the container.

STEP 4 - Next I added the background flower graphic by clicking on Insert > Background.  Here are the settings I used, changing it to No Scrolling.

STEP 5 - Now I want to insert a positioned image of the pink flower into the center of the flower container.   Be sure you still have the Positioned Container button selected and then click on Insert > Positioned Object > Positioned Image.   Here are the settings I used.

STEP 6 - Next I want to add some little pink flowers scrolling "behind" the pink flower I just added.   With the Positioned Container button selected, click on Insert > Background.  Here are the settings I used.  If I had wanted the flowers to scroll in front of the flower I would have put a checkmark in the green circled area below.

STEP 7 - Next, instead of putting the message area inside the container, I want to add a container to hold a message area on the right side of my flower container.  I want this container to expand as needed regardless of the size of the receiver's viewing area.  Click on Insert > Container > Positioned Container.

First I'll to set the Horizontal Layout.  I want the text to be on the right of the flower container, so I told Scrippy to place it 440 pixels from the "left" edge of the Master Scrippy.  That's because my flower container is 400 pixels wide, and I placed that container 30 pixels from the left edge (400 + 30 = 430) and I want to allow 10 pixels of space between the two containers (400 + 30 + 10 = 440).  Finally I want it to be 10 pixels from the right on the Master Scrippy.

Next I'll set the Vertical Layout.  I want this container to be the same vertically as the flower container so I'll set it 50 pixels down from the top and make it 400 pixels high.

Here are the settings I used to create the container.

When using a fixed size container and you type more text in that container than the container can display, Scrippy gives the viewer a scroll bar to use in order to read all the text.  If you don't want the scroll bar you'll need to change the size of the container to accommodate the text .. or switch to automatically expanding containers and message areas.

STEP 8 - Now I want to insert a message area into the new container.  First I make sure that I have clicked on the new container button on the left control panel, then I clicked on Insert > Message Area.  I used the following settings for the margins.

Since my text is short, I won't have a scroll bar in the text container.  If I would have typed more text than could be displayed in the visual container, then Scrippy provides a scroll bar so that all the text can be read.  If you don't want a frame around your text container, I find it best to set the margins to zero all the way around and use the whole container.

This is how the buttons look on my control panel for this example.  Unless you make a change to your Loading Message you won't have that button, but all the other buttons should be the same.

The only addition to this example is a positioned image of a flower in the center of the flower container and a scrolling background of smaller flowers.  This time I choose not to scroll the main flowered background.
